Foot
Massage And Reflexology
Technique
Foot
massage, also known as foot reflexology technique has a Chinese
origin and dates back more than 3,000 years and is used as a
healing therapy in the prevention and treatment of many health
ailments.
Some even
claim that foot massage dates back to ancient Egyptian times
due to archaeological findings and cave drawings in
Egypt.
The
principles of foot massage and reflexology techniques stem from
the premise that the meridian network connects all organs,
tissues and cells in our body. Each organ in the human body is
connected with a specific reflex point on the foot through an
intermediary of 300 nerves. A trained foot reflexologist can
apply pressure on various meridians or energy lines on the sole
and side of the feet to determine the cause of
illness.
By applying
pressure at these reflex points, reflexology therapy is good
for stimulating the active internal organs, and to improve the
circulation of blood and lymph. Thus, an individual can benefit
from top to toe all through the application of quality
reflexology technique on the foot.
The
principles of reflexology massage however are not in congruence
with western allopathic medicine. Western medicine merely views
the foot as a body part comprised of bones, joints and
ligaments.
However,
foot massage and reflexology techniques are fast gaining
increased acceptance and popularity as an alternative health
therapy and treatment. Advocates of foot massage believe it can
assist in the healing of not only minor ailments like colds,
but also more serious ailments as well such as constipation
problems, liver dysfunction, skin allergies, chronic headaches,
etc.
As with
most Oriental healing techniques, foot reflexology is a
“holistic” treatment. It focuses on treating the whole person
and not just the symptoms of any particular
ailment.
While
Western medicine may offer a speedy recovery along with the
side effects that often accompany them, foot massage therapy
may be a slower and more gradual process. A series of visits
may be necessary to strengthen the body and restore it back to
balance.
Unless you
are fortunate enough to access and experience foot massage and
reflexology therapy while living or travelling in the east, a
session of foot reflexology may set you back as much as
US$40-100. Thus, over a period of time it can prove to be an
expensive exercise.
However,
for both practitioners and devotees of the therapy, the cost of
good health is well worth it and to pay a fair price for a
quality foot massage using reflexology technique and the
benefits it provides is well justified.
